Cut Medium Vase — Handmade Raku Ceramic Vase

Crafted entirely by hand in Italy, the Cut Medium Vase from Studio Nudo brings the ancient art of Raku ceramics into contemporary interiors. Its generous, rounded silhouette — standing 30 cm tall with a 23 cm diameter — strikes a balance between sculptural presence and everyday versatility, equally suited to holding dried botanicals or standing on its own as a focal point.

What sets this piece apart is the making. Two specialist artisans collaborate on every vase: one shapes the clay on a potter's wheel, carving clean incisions into the surface while it still spins, and the other oversees the unpredictable Raku firing process that gives each piece its singular character. There are no molds and no two results are alike.

Choose from two distinctive finishes:

Smoked Black — A double-fired finish where the vase is sealed in a reduction chamber with organic materials after its second kiln pass. Starved of oxygen, the raw clay absorbs carbon from the smoke, producing a rich, matte black surface with subtle depth and variation across every curve.

Light Sand — A softer expression achieved through the interaction of glaze and smoke during the Raku process. The result is a warm, tactile surface with gentle tonal shifts — understated yet full of quiet detail.

The Raku technique originated in 16th-century Japan as part of the tea ceremony tradition, where imperfection was considered a form of beauty. That philosophy — known as wabi-sabi — is woven into every piece Studio Nudo creates. Small variations in color, texture, and form are not flaws; they are evidence of a living process.
