Ray is a sculptural stacking vessel handcrafted in Europe — a collaboration between Finnish-German designer Pia Wüstenberg and the skilled artisans of Utopia & Utility. Standing over half a metre tall, this piece is built from three distinct components: a mouth-blown glass body, a hand-spun brass-coloured metal middle, and a hand-turned wooden crown with naturally irregular edges. Each element is made in a different European country, then assembled by hand at Utopia & Utility's workshop in northern Germany.
The glass is covered in hundreds of individually applied diamond-wheel cuts — a process carried out on a spinning wet wheel that takes even an experienced craftsperson several hours to complete on a single piece. The result is a surface that catches and refracts light from every angle, shimmering with quiet intensity.
When stacked, Ray reads as a bold sculptural form — a striking presence on a shelf, dining table, or console. When separated, each component becomes functional: the glass serves as a vase, while the wooden and metal pieces work as decorative bowls or accent objects.
